Education is the Key to your Future!

This is true when you are still in school or university and even more important after you graduate.  Done is the time when the knowledge that you gained in school will last you throughout your life.   The sum of human knowledge is growing at an amazing pace.  I have at home an old set of the Encyclopedia Britannica from 1969 and it is 20 volumes of closely written text with pictures.  I don't even want to think  how many volumes if they were to publish one today!

So, in order to stay competitive in today's job market you need to be constantly updating your skill set.  Is there a way to do this on a limited budget?  Yes, there are many sites that you can learn for free.  You might have to pay to get certified by the website, but is that really necessary?  I am currently learning a few subjects on a website  called Alison. Alison Courses  They offer lots of courses that can help you.  I am currently learning French, a lesson a day.  Maybe the next time we met I'll be able to hold a conversation in French!

Get your Personal Development Video Library!

We all like watching videos.  It has been estimated that children spend at least two hours watching videos or television a day.  Many adults use the TV to help them fall asleep.  But do you monitor what you are watching?  Why not change from just "entertainment" to "self development?"

I have put together a video library of Self Development videos to help you on your way to personal success.  There will be new videos added weekly or so as I find more worthwhile videos that will help you grow and become more successful.

Personal Development Video Library

Enjoy!

Gemach's help our society!

In Israel, we have an informal system of Gemachim.  This is when people open their hearts to help other people.  I will list three Gemachim here.  (Gemachim is plural for Gemach, meaning more than one!)

The first is the Turquoise Butterfly.  It is located on Ktav Sofer Street 8 in Givat Shaul.  Tamara has been running this gemach for many years and she has a large selection of used clothes for you to buy. She also accepts donations in good condition. 050-415-7033  or 0532700546

The Wig Gemach - Rachael - The Traveling Hair salon opened a Gemach last year to help women who want to wear a wig, but can't afford the high prices.   She washes and sets the wigs, when they come in. So far, she has helped women who are just out of the hospital, women who need a wig to work with the public and others.  Consider donating your old wig and have it put to good use by someone else.  http://travelinghairsalon.weebly.com/wig-gemach-149015021495-1508148814931514.html

Quality of life issues.

In my Life Coaching practice, I come across many different types of problems.  Sometimes they don't have to do with business, or interpersonal issues.  This issue that I dealt with today is one that I have myself.  The client has tried to get rid of Tinnitus.  This is a ringing in the ear.  It can be high or low, and usually doesn't bother me during the day, it feels louder when there is no background noise.  It is especially annoying when one wants to fall asleep and there is this ringing in the ears.  I have tried a number of treatments, and the ear, nose, and throat doctors have nothing to help.  They don't feel like it is a problem, as it doesn't really interfere with everyday life.  But it has been getting louder.

So, before I tell my client to spend lots of money and maybe it doesn't work, I decided to try it on myself first.  The first "cure" that I tried was to put drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in both ears.  When there is a small infection, hydrogen peroxide helps get rid of it.  So in one ear, once a week, is fine.  That ear now doesn't have Tinnitus.  (I am not a doctor, take my advice with a big grain of salt.)

But the other ear has been ringing still for many years, so that didn't work.  So today, as the ringing was getting louder, and now even during the day I hear it.  I decided to do some more research.  This time I found this website:     One cure for Tinnitus

So I went out today and I bought a bottle of Grape Seed Extract.  It is pricey at 166 NIS for 60 pills, enough for 2 month supply.  And then a small bottle of special ear oil that has olive oil, garlic, lavender, cloves and calendula. This was 29NIS.  I had heard in the past that these herbs are useful for the ear.  I took one of the pills, and rubbed the oil on the inside of the ear, and now when I swallow, I feel a big click. I think that this is working. The healthy ear didn't feel anything, but the one that rings felt a tingling.  So I think that something is working.

Again, I'm not a doctor, but I am sick and tired of this ringing, and I wanted to do something about it.
I'll let you know in two months if the ringing is less, or not.  It's worth a try. And then maybe my client could try it too.   If they work, then I will be very happy!

A little bit out of my way, but worth it!

I happened to be in Tel Aviv two weeks ago, and I found these pictures waiting for me.  Tel Aviv is not all tall buildings, glass and metal.  The first picture is of the Yakon River, well more like a creek. and the second shows blue sky, and trees.

How to increase your e-mail marketing reach

Do you think that every business needs to have a website?
It adds credibility, and a place for people to see what you are offering without having to go to your physical location.  You also have to find places to promote your website so that it can help you in your business.

Many people feel that you have to have an advertisement in the newspaper.  This becomes an expense. You pay for the ad, and hope that people will see it. You rely upon the newspaper distribution and that the ad will be seen and acted upon.  Many times I see these "advertisement magazines" just a stack of them near the trash.  Does this help the advertiser?  No.  These magazines will not get picked up or read.  It is just a waste of paper, time and energy of all concerned.

The same problem can happen with a website. One year I bought a domain name.  Actually I bought two.  The first one, I misspelled the title, and I had to buy another one correctly spelled.  This was embarrassing to say the least.  I put up a very nice website, but there were no hits.  I couldn't understand why.  I mean, the correctly spelled domain name.  I built the site, but no one came.:(

Why weren't people going to the website? Well, one way to get people to go to your website is to set up e-mail marketing.  That is why I started my Yahoogroups e-mail lists.  I also started this blog, people sign up for my e-mail lists, post what they want, and I put up what I want too.  Other that it takes lots of time to moderate the lists, there are some things that are not appropriate for Jerusalem households to see, it is a win-win situation.

Today I found a free e-book that you can use for free to help you in your e-mail marketing.  I am going to take tip #23 myself and use it to promote my blogs.  They give you links that are live and useful for you to get your e-mail list up and running.

57 E-mail marketing Tips

If the site asks for money, don't sign up right away, but check out other sites that might be for free.  If you can't find something else that will deliver what the paid site does, then go ahead.  I almost always find a free site that will fit my needs.

Good luck with your E-mail marketing!

ReFrame your Day

I have made some real blunders in my life, and I used to get upset about it.  Well, sometimes I look back and have an bad day.  There are lessons in every event that happens to you if you will look for them.  Difficult people come into your life to teach you how to deal with difficult people.  If you can let the bad events slide off your back like water slides off a duck's back, then when life hands you a lemon, it might be an Etrog!  -- And worth a bit of money!

NLP can help you reframe these so called bad events, and help you get over these feelings by installing an anchor that you can "fire" when you are feeling down.  Each person has a different mind set and if you can find yours, you can change your thoughts instantly!

Short Story Review - Chris J. Randolf

I first stumbled on this very good Science Fiction book on Aldiko books,  Stars Rain Down, but now he is on Amazon and much easier to find.  I am a long time Science Fiction reader, having subscribed to Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine in the 1980's, during my time at University Sr. High School.

This short story is interesting;
http://oktopods.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/webfiction-the-shocking-death-of-some-guy-named-bill/#comment-276

It is a short, short, and gives some interesting ideas.  I would

like to see more of a character development and more plot.

Check this out and also his books on Amazon, the best is

Stars Rain Down, a far sweeping view of Mankind's place in

the Universe.

Keep up the writing Chris and keep us updated when new books

are available!

Alex Auswaks in Memoriam

It is with great sadness that I have heard the news that Alex Auswaks has passed away.  He was a a very special person, touching the lives of many people throughout his long life.  Only just now after being his typing teacher, one of my many projects, am I getting to know him.  Many of his friends are sending me e-mails about him and how the affected their lives.  These show what a sensitive man he was.

He was always wanting to learn something new.  Even though he was only allowed out of his apartment once a week to go to the hospital, he was involved in many projects up until he had to go the hospital.  I was teaching him how to touch type.  It was a long process, which unfortunately he did not finish.  We got through most of the keyboard.  Why did he want to learn typing now?  He wanted to write more books.  I really admired his perseverance in spite of his health problems.  He always was looking forward, not back with regret.  I know that he is smiling down upon us even now.

Alex passed away on April 7th, after a short stay in hospital.  His friends truly miss him.

If you have any stories that you would like to share, I am putting together a memorial book in his memory that will be available on Amazon Kindle.  Send them to rachaelalice@gmail.com.

May his memory be blessed.

The summer weather is (almost) here!

The summer weather is (almost) here in Israel.  It is a topsy turvy spring this year.  One day it is hot, and the next day is cold.  You almost don't know whether to keep the coats out, or put them away for  the winter.

One thing that is certain, is that this is the time to lose weight.  The basic premise of losing weight is to use up more energy than you are getting from food.  Some people do this by counting calories.  This can get very time consuming as you have to figure out how many calories each serving of food has before you eat it. This sounds like to me too much work.

Another way is exercise.  This is a good way to lose weight, and you get the added benefit of good blood pressure, heart health, and a good mental attitude.  If you like to exercise, then exercise every day for 20 minutes, eating a balanced diet.

One thing that you must not forget is to drink enough water.  Yes, water.  Cola, coffee, fruit juice does not count.  You still need your water.  80 percent of your body weight is made up of water and if you don't drink enough, your kidneys have to work that much harder.   These other drinks are just for a bit of taste to finish a meal, the water should be your main drink, not to add more sugars to your diet.

One way to get a good diet is to go to a certified dietitian.  If you stick to your diet, and drink your water, you should gradually lose weight and stay healthy at the same time.

NLP can also help you keep to your diet. You install anchors in your mind, with feeling, taste, smell and vision clues.  Whenever you think of eating the chocolate bar, give yourself your anchor and feel how it is to be thin, without the extra calories.  With NLP you don't need very many sessions to get results.

Stand out in your business!

In today's society, there is tremendous pressure to conform to the norm.  From a young age, we are told to buy the same clothes, eat the same food, and go to the same events as everyone else.
This is the reason that the fashion industry is so successful.  They create a product, advertise it and this creates demand that everyone will want to look the same.

Remember the fads that were popular when you were a teenager.  Really, I would not be caught dead in those clothes that I wore then. (I might like to be able to fit into them though).  Fashions change and we change.

And it is time now, in business not to follow the crowd. We have to Stand out from the crowd to get noticed and to make ourselves a success.  Read this poster often, and think of ways that you can make your business stand out.  What makes your business different?  What services do you offer that others don't?  How can you get the word out?  These can be tools that you can use for your success.

Always be a first rate vision of YOU!

Now that Pesach has come and gone, many of us are still putting back together the kitchen!  I admit it, I still have not found all of the plates, pots and pans.  But that is not going to let me down.

When I need the pot, then I will find it.  This is what happened yesterday when my sons, who decided to make a gigantic tuna salad.  They found this recipe during Pesach, and since it was so good, they have decided to continue making it.

As you might guess, I am not the greatest in the kitchen,  That is because my idea of a good time is not standing in front of the stove.  I like to play, music, blog, teach English, you get my drift. So when my sons said that they wanted to make their Tuna Supreme, I told them to look for the bowls.  (I hadn't used them in two years, but don't tell them that!)

They found the bowls and it took them about an hour of 4 kids hard cutting to make the salad.  It then got eaten in twenty minutes!

They had a goal and they followed it to the end.  - - -  And left me to wash the dishes!

I recommend this book:  To help you in your quest to be the best you can be.

Make a mental image of where you want to be in 5 years, 1 year, 1 month, next week!
What steps will you have to do now to get there?
Can you break it down to small steps?
Do each step one at a time!

Good luck!
