Renters are being cheated in Israel!

I have resolved never to rent an apartment in Israel.  The number of times that my mother has been cheated, the landlord sending people to look at the apartment with too short notice. the last apartment, the landlord came in to use the bathroom, and "borrow" her computer, ( it came back a few days later).

There has to be laws that protect renters from unscrupulous landlords!

This article deals with renters in Los Angeles, but even though it is from 2001, I feel that it is a good practice for landlords to write receipts.

http://articles.latimes.com/2001/mar/18/realestate/re-39286

This question deals with rent from a business, and here it is the law for the landlord to give a receipt and report the income to the Income Tax Authority.

http://www.eli-tax.co.il/questions

This is the law that Shelly Yechimolovich wrote in 2010.  I have read through the whole thing,  as well as my oldest son, and it doesn't say anything about the landlord has to give receipts,   or confirmation of payment,  to the renter.  This is a glaring hole in the law.  How can the renter prove that he paid the rent?  If he/she paid in cash, how can it be proven?
If this is the case, then the State of Israel is not being honest with renters and there is no way to prove that the rent was paid!  The other thing that is not in the law is that the landlord is getting passive income and that is not being reported to the state.  In the case of a business property this is being reported but it looks like for private renters that there is no tax, because there is no reporting!   But if there were a tax, who would really pay it?  The renter, this is no help because the renter pays enough for the place to live.  We need a better system!

Facebook marketing - Business on a Shoestring

Now Facebook has tools for marketing.  I opened up a page for a client, and another one for myself this week.

The new features are a whole page where you can see where your reach, and how many people liked your post.  This makes it more interesting to post on a page rather than in your timeline only.
The best thing to do in my opinion, is to post on your page, and then share to your timeline and groups which will be interested in your post.

If you see that you want more people and it will be worth it to your brand to boost the post, then set a budget and keep within it to boost posts.

I prefer to test posts with my own efforts first and see which ones and what types are most popular first before spending money.  Who are your target audience?  When are they on-line?  What is your call to action?  These are the questions that you need to answer before spending money on promotion.

Here are the links to the pages as I promised!

Doctors 24 hour Strike starts Thursday August 11th at 8 am!

The first inkling that I got this evening of a doctors strike was in one of my Yahoogroup.  A woman is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow and now it will be postphoned until after Succot!!!!

Then, as a good journalist, I tried to check the sources.  Arutz 7 doesn't report on it, but the Jerusalem Post does.  But. . . you really have to look for it.  Don't worry, I did the work and here is the link
http://www.jpost.com/Business-and-Innovation/Health-and-Science/Hospital-doctors-give-green-light-to-Thursday-strike-463711

What does this mean practically?  Well if you have a clinic appointment, you should call ahead of time to make sure that the doctor will be there, and then make a new appointment that will probably be in a couple of months. . .

If you have Ultrasounds or CTs or MRI's call also,  It is best to be safe than sorry.

I agree with Laniado which doesn't allow strikes!  There should be other ways to solve worker disputes.

Door in Jerusalem

I was taking a walk in Jerusalem, and to show that we are a real city and real people live here, I found this interesting door.  You can see the rust, the marks of the keys,  The mail that has not come today.
You can tell a lot about a person by their door.  Yes?

Thinking of Gastric Bypass surgery? Think again!

Many people are desperate to lose weight and we all want to do it in the easiest way possible.  It seems that it is an epidemic right now, that we are all too heavy.

One way is to do Gastric Bypass surgery.  The logic behind this is that if the stomach is smaller, then when you eat, you will feel full faster and won't eat so much.

This can help a lot of people, but what the general public doesn't know is that once you have the surgery, you can't just go and eat the same things that you ate before.  You have to be very careful not to eat too much at one time.

I know of a woman who had this surgery a few years ago, and now she is having lots of problems with her stomach and had to go on a liquid diet. She hasn't eaten a regular meal in months!

Another problem, is that people get used to the smaller stomach and don't lose the weight.
They don't stay on the special diet.

So if you are considering Gastric Bypass Surgery, first try to go on the diet, and see if you can stick to it.  Here is a link that gives all the details about it: http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-bypass-diet-guide/

If you can stay on the special diet, say the maintenance  (the last stage) for a long time, you probably don't need the surgery!
