Demographics make a big difference for selling in Jerusalem

Jerusalem is a special market.  The city has a very diverse population of all religions.  When you are choosing what merchandise to sell, you have to take into account your local population.

If you are in the Center of Jerusalem, the clothing offered should be different than in other places in the city.

For example, lets take boys jeans and pants.  There are three children clothing stores in Givat Shaul, Har Nof area.

When you walk into All in One, they sell only boys pants, and girls skirts.  They don't have a wide selection, but usually if the child is not too picky, you can find something.  But my son is picky.

Next door, there is Tamnoon. This is a more fashion store, and caters to a more liberal crowd, and they get customers that are more traditional, as well as others.  One big problem with this store, is that they didn't research the area, and they stock lots of girls pants.  Well, in this area, girls wear skirts, not pants! The boys pants sell out right away, and let me tell you, my son wouldn't be caught dead wearing girls pants.  They are cut differently, and have flashy accents.  So, even if the girls pants are on sale, they sit there.  If they would have brought in boys pants instead, they would make a lot more money.  I called the company, and tried to order two size 12's but they have sold out in the whole country!  No boys pants!  When I was a merchandising manager at JCPenney, with the boys department, I would have been really in trouble if I didn't have boys jeans in all the sizes in stock!  This is not a seasonal item, like coats, that you stock only in the winter.

Fox, is across the street. They are trying to be trendy.  Well, the boys in this neighborhood don't want trendy.  The trend is to show a bit of elastic that looks like underwear that sticks up out of the pants.  Weird.   They are also skimping on the sizes.  The size 12 is more like a size 10, and well my son won't wear size 14!

So, when you are deciding what merchandise to buy, you have to take into account your area, the culture and make sure that you don't run out of basic items.

Many People Ask- What is Reflexology?

Many People Ask- What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an alternative hands on treatment that can help many conditions    from Pain to Sinus Conditions to many Women’s Health symptoms.

Reflexology is so well accepted and has helped so many people that in our country it is offered through the Kupot.

Reflexology is based on reflection - Reflection of organs and organ systems in points and parts of the feet.
All body systems and organs are reflected in the feet, and any change could indicate a lack of physical or mental balance.

Reflexology can be diagnosed using the level of functioning of the systems and organs of the body, and treat them as a preventive treatment, improve performance , strengthen immune systems, relieve pain and improve quality of life.

Did you also know that Reflexology treatment is suitable for babies, children, teens and adults alike? Research shows that patients of all ages have benefited from this type of treatment.

Another advantage of Reflexology is that the patient who does not particular like being touched for various reasons usually can find comfort and relaxation with the Reflexology points on the feet.
Feet themselves, are a part of the body that rarely get the attention they need and when they do get Reflexology treatments, the whole body benefits. Read more about the amazing connection between your feet and the human body.

Can you still practice the Clarinet and the Saxophone when you are sick?

This is a very important question because for many people it is a big problem.  I do play all my instruments when I am sick because  I am teaching, and I don't want to give up working if I have a little cold.   I don't want to lose my technique, hand muscle tone, and cheek muscle tone, that might happen if I wouldn't play for two weeks.  I could keep up on guitar, mandolin and organit, but I like to also play the woodwinds.

As you can see in this picture, I have disinfected my clarinet reeds and mouthpiece with Hydrogen Peroxide.  I don't put a lot, but if I see white bubble forming on the reed or the mouthpiece, then there was an infection there.  I put a drop from the dropper bottle on each reed and the mouthpiece until I don't see any white bubbles there anymore.  Then I know that all the bacteria and viruses are gone.

I used to use alcohol, which is ok for the reeds, but not the mouthpiece, it tends to turn the mouthpiece a deep shade of olive green.  I like my mouthpiece to stay black.:)

So the answer to the question is that you can still play woodwinds when you are sick, but you have to disinfect your mouthpiece and reeds,  otherwise you will continue to reinfect yourself.  I just did my clarinet reeds this morning and I have to go get more Hydrogen Peroxide from the pharmacy, It is quite cheap, only 10NIS or so, it is quite worth it.

The Holyland Tower in Ramat Sharet Jerusalem

This project was a bit problematic, it consists of many towers that now dominate the skyline of Jerusalem.  They don't really fit with the rest of the city. But we have gotten used to them after 10 years.

How to prepare for a Social Worker Visit.

If you have to have the social workers in your life, you need to show them that you don't really need them at all. First be very confident when you have meeting with them.  Don't cry, don't shout, and keep calm.  The best way to do  this is to practice.  Get a friend, or a life coach to go over the most probable questions that you will be asked. It is very important to stay calm, when you are in the office and show that you are not "needy."

The first thing that you must do is to fix up your apartment.  If there are things that are not in good repair, it is worth the money to get them fixed. If you can, paint.

Then you need to get rid of all the clutter.  All the books should fit on the shelves,  nothing should be on the floor, and all cabinet doors have to close properly.

Next, go in the kitchen and throw out all the broken stuff, Get rid of extra jars, make sure that plastic bags are in a place that is neat.

Laundry room.  make sure that the the dirty laundry is in a basket, and on the day of the visit, that there is no dirty laundry waiting.

Bedrooms, make sure that all kids clothes and toys are in a closet, that closes properly.

Porch.  Throw out all dead plants, have the floor clean, this is not the time to be a plant nursery.

If you need help to get in shape for your Social Worker visit,  get your friends, neighbors, tell them you are cleaning for Peasach early!
