The School Massacre in Conneticut

I am sure that you have all heard about the massacre that happened on Friday in Connecticut.  A man went to a school and gunned down 20 people, including schoolchildren learning in a classroom.

Well, this would not happen in Israel.  First of all, every school has a school guard who checks for identification, and if the person has a gun.  They are stationed at the school gate during school hours.  They are trained and licensed in the use of the gun and in the circumstances of when to use the gun or not.  If the guard even takes out the gun inappropriately, he loses the license on the spot.  (This happened to one of my neighbors).

Every 18 year old who goes into the army is drilled in the proper use of a gun.  They carry their guns with them when they are in active service, and there has only been one instance of someone going mad with a gun and causing a problem.  (It has only happened once in my memory, and it made front page news all around the world! - try to guess the person's name and where it happened in Israel, not a very hard trivia question).

There is not the culture of "gun lovers" here in Israel.  There is no hunting,. all the animals are protected and people do not kill animals for fun as many people do in the United States.

No one can go on a "rampage" at a mall either.  There is a security guard at every entrance to a mall, movie theater, concert and supermarket.  There is no way that a mad man can enter a mall and kill with a gun or a knife.

This adds up to the cost of goods, services and events, but we are happy to pay the extra manpower cost because it saves lives.

Maybe the United States needs to take Israel's example.  Security saves lives.  Just do it for your sake and your children's sake.
