While we are in the middle of protests with the Israeli people who came from Eithopia, there is another concern that affects all of us. What to do with all the plastic bottles?
While people weren't paying attention, the cages for putting plastic bottles disappeared yesterday from Jerusalem. I don't know about Tel-Aviv, but here they are gone. This is a big step backward for the environment.
In a typical week at my home, especially during the summer we drink at least 12 bottles full of juice, cola and water. These come in 1.5 liter plastic bottles. We used to religiously put the bottles in the cages every few days. I felt that I was doing my part for the environment.
Now that the company that was recycling these bottles has shut down, there is no place to recycle and we will have to throw the bottles in the trash. Plastic takes a long time to decompose, and we are filling up our landfills at an alarming rate. Just drive by on the way to Tel Aviv to smell the garbage in the dump there on the side of the road.
So I suggest that we all boycott juices and colas that come in plastic bottles until the government comes up with another solution what to do about the bottles.
This might be healthier in the long run for us, the colas have lots of not so good ingredients anyway.
