It is official, Bob Dylan will give a concert
in Ramat Gan, Israel, on June
20, 2011.
Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman;
May 24, 1941) is an American
singer-songwriter, poet, and painter.
He has been a major figure in music
for five decades.
Though he is well-known for revolutionizing
perceptions of the limits of
popular music in 1965 with the six-minute
single "Like a Rolling Stone"a
number of his earlier songs such as
"Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times
They Are a-Changin'" became anthems
for the US civil rights and anti-war
movements.
After a short Christian and Gospel period,
with the discs " Slow train
coming" " Saved" and "Shot of Love" ,
Bob Dylan came in Jerusalem in 1983
for his son's Jakob Dylan Bar Mitsva.
Then he recorded his most Jewish album
" Infidels" with Mark Knopfler, Mick Taylor
and two Bob Marley's musicians.
According to the Sue Fishkoff book
" The Rebbe's Army" p.167, Bob Dylan is
one of the biggest names associated
with Chabad. In the early 1980s, Chabad
" rescued" Dylan from a brief flirtation
with Christianity, and for several
years, Bylan studied with Minneapolis
Rabbis Manis Friedman and Moshe
Feller, whom he visited also for Shabbat dinners.
Dylan made surprise
appereances at the 1988 and 1989 Chabad telethons,
once playing " Hava
Negila" out of tune on the harmonica.
Dylan prays at Chabad High Holidays in
Encino, California, next to his house
in Malibu. In 2001 he was honored with
an Alyah to the Torah on Yom Kippur
morning. Bob Dylan came to the Rabbi of
Lubavitch ZTS"L for Sunday dollars
for more than a dozen times . He gave
$ 100,000 for a Chabad building in
Minessota named after his father Z"L.
