Facts about kidney donation:

1. One can live just as well with
one kidney as with two

2. Kidney donation is less risky
then childbirth.

3. One out of about 750 people are born
with one kidney and may be walking
around with one kidney and may never know it,
since life is the same as two!

4. One can have children after kidney donation.
(I know of many who have
had children after donating a kidney)

5. One does not go on a special diet after
donating a kidney - no medications
.
6. People who are in need of a kidney and on dialysis
- most have 2 kidneys - when one goes - the other
one goes at the same time.
7. Major study was conducted by the University of
Minnesota that tracked
kidney donors over a 40 year period, that shows
that kidney donors live just
as long (if not longer) than the general
population who has not donated a
kidney! Published in the New England Journal of Medicine
The late Professor Michael Friedlander ,
worked in Jerusalem as a
specialist in Kidney Transplants. He did a
lot of research, he says, in the end,
according to his research, It’s no more dangerous
to give one kidney, if
you are healthy, then to drive around Tel Aviv
in a car!

....WHAT RABBONIM HAVE TO SAY ABOUT KIDNEY DONATION.......

"Fortunate is the lot of all (kidney) donors -
Hashem will surely reward
them, bring good health to them, and theirs
to their children and their
children's children, for all eternity" -
Rabbi Yisroel Belsky, Rosh Yeshiva,
Yeshiva Torah V'daas, Brooklyn, NY
"The z'chus, the merit ,of this mitzvah,
of donating a kidney, will stand
by the donor, insuring that he be blessed
from heaven with a long life,
years of good life , full of simchas, suffering
from neither harm nor loss."
- Rabbi Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz, Ros Yeshiva
Ponevezh Yeshiva, Bnei Brak, Motetzes
Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah
.....WHAT DOCTORS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT KIDNEY DONATION.....
"Just think people have no problem having
only one kidney, so we have to
ask, why did Hashem give us two kidneys?
Perhaps it is so you would have an
extra one to donate and save a life!
- Dr. Stuart Greenstein, Kidney Transplant Surgeon,
Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY

"We are born with approximately 4-5 times
the kidney function that we
need, to be healthy and stay off of dialyisis-
to not have kidney failure. So
by donating one of your kidneys, you are
still left with with 2-3 times the
amount of kidney function that you need
to be healthy and lead a normal
life"
- Dr. Joseph Del Pizzo.
Assistant Professor of Urology, Director,
Laproscopic Surgery, New York -
Presbytarian Hospital - Weill Corneil Medical
Center, New York, NY. \
“Kidney donation is a relatively safe operation,
and many donors will
never feel the loss of their second kidney.
So giving up a kidney causes no
disadvantage to your long-term health.
In fact, studies have shown, that
KIDNEY DONORS ACTUALLY LIVE LONGER"
than the general population - because
donors come from a pool of people in good health"
- Dr. Michael Edye,
Adjunct Associate Professor of surgery, Mt. Sinai
Medical Center, NYC
Very Safe Operation"
- Dr. Jay Levine, General Surgeon, St.,
Mary's Health Care, West Michigan,
MI
"There's a lot of misconceptions about
kidney donation and a lot of fear.
But if people take the time to get
the facts, they find out the risks are
very minimal. People are born with
two kidneys. You only need one."
- Michelle Winsor, Kidney Transplant Coordinator,
Sharp Memorial Hospital,
San Diego, CA
