This is a chronic disease that doesn't have involve a trip to the emergency room! In the past two years I have had to suffer through the emergency room proceedure with my husband who has the beginning stages of this disease. We first have to get a referral from a doctor, so last year we went at 3:00am to the Moded of Meuhedit. Then we went to the emergency room of Shaare' Tzedek. This involved a wait of about 5 hours. Then we found out that the neurologist only shows up at 9:00am! So it was a waste to wake up so early in the morning to get there!
At the emergency room, there are very many cases of people who are in very serious condition, from car accidents, and heart attacks, so the emergency staff don't give a priority to an MS patient. We didn't leave until 12:00pm!
At another time, the condition was so bad that my husband had to be hospitalized. But there was no room in the ward, so he was moved every two days to another department in Hadassah! I never knew where he would be when I came to visit!
Why does care for MS patients have to be so bad? I suggest that there be a "walk-in" clinic for those patients who feel like they are getting an attack. This would be a hospital day center. Where the patients would go to get the medication for the day, 3 times at the proper times, and then send them home at night. The is why a person with MS is in the hospital to get medication that can't be taken with pills. So then the person gets the care they need and can go home to sleep at night.
It would be useful to do a survey of MS petients to see if the attacks are seasonal, or what time of the year they hit. Then, hospital care could be planned accordingly.
Please send this post to everyone you know who might be affected by this disease. Maybe together we can change how MS. patients are treated!

Well I wrote this yesterday, but it seems that I have to take my husband NOW to the emergency room to get the MS taken care of. Too bad there isn't a better system to help!
