VAT in Israel is supposed to go down in January 2016

According to the Financial Minister, the VAT in Israel is due to go down in January 2016.  This is to help the economy, and to boost private consumption.  What does that mean for the consumer?  Well for day to day food and  basic necessities, nothing, but if you are planning a big buy, instead of buying it now, wait until January so you can save.  The current rate is 18% and the proposed VAT rate will be 17%.  On small items you won't see much change in your bills, but if you want to buy a new fridge, or a car, so wait and you will enjoy a big difference!

One part of managing your money is to manage when to buy, not only what to buy!

Winter time officially starts on October 25th

Although some of us in Israel had a rude awakening this morning and some of us were almost late to work and school.  For some reason, Google and the Internet infrastructure automatically changed the clocks . . . more than a month early.  But don't worry folks, we really only change the time on October 25th, just link in England, and most of Europe,

But really the question remains, why do we do this?  Does it really give us economic benefit to change the clocks back and forth?  In my humble opinion, it doesn't do anything. period.  Most factories are 24 hours, and they turn on the lights 24/6 (we are in Israel of course). Almost everyone turns on the light and always works with florescent energy saving bulbs.

What are the real costs?  Human costs.  When the time changes, either way there is always a loss of productivity.  People miss the time change,  get to work late,  and in the elderly there can be health problems, they are waiting for their caregiver, who comes an hour later.  It might be too late.

We in the modern world need to stop the archaic custom, just pick a time and leave it.

High School Strike tomorrow, Sunday September 21st. . . .

Tomorrow, There will be a school strike, . . but only for two hours. Send your high school students to school at 10:00am.

What is the hubbub about?  Well, there has been lots of budget cuts, especially the Christian schools.  So in solidarity, the Israeli schools will join the 18 day Christian school strike.  It is not fair that there is discrimination between the two streams of schooling. So don't send your teenager early at 8:00pm, but only at 10:00am.

Good morning

Well today is starting out nicecand cool but the weather forecast calls for 32 degrees Celsius.  I am not going to take a sweater today. My advice is to go out in the morning and enjoy the coolness and then I will work on-line in the afternoon with a fan blowing in my face!
