Torah Class April 29th at 8:00PM! In Memory of Yochai Cherki hy:"d

This is a very important event that if you have time, you should go to!  Our friend and esteemed cameraman is giving this class dedicated to the memory of this fine young man who was murdered by a terrorist who used his car as a killing weapon.

How can we protect ourselves?  There are no words that we can say to this family, but we can go to this class and support them in their grief, our grief.

Is Tsu a Scam? You make the decision!

Many people have been wondering if Tsu is for real or not.  Many people say it is a scam. They say that it is impossible for a social network to redistribute 90% of the income to its users.

In my opinion we have to wait and see if they really will pay or not.  I signed up and I will let you know when I will be paid.

But what exactly is a scam?  A scam site is one that doesn't give what they promise.  Are you on Tsu for the money?  Well,if so, then go out and get a real job.  No Internet site is going to replace your income.  It has been said that you could make more money by having a blog and working on it. Well, I have to tell you that I have 6 blogs that I write on, and well Google Adsense does pay, but it is like not going to replace my day job(s).

Tsu will send a check when your account gets to $100.  Well so does Google Adsense.  It took 4, yes, FOUR years for my Google account to get up to $100.  Was that the reason that I blog?  No not really, but that $100 does help a bit the pocketbook.  I took the check to a money changer here in Jerusalem and they were happy to change it for me.  If Tsu were to do the same and take less than four years, that's a plus.

It was also said that most of the people are on Tsu for the money.  They don't care really about you.  I have been on the site for a week, and there are pictures that I'd rather not see, so I unfriend and unfollow those people. No harm done.  With each post that you write you can also post them on Facebook and Twitter.  Ok with me.

What Tsu does offer is a new set of people who haven't met me and seen any of my blog posts, videos pictures.  I can post them here and get new traffic to my blogs.  That is a plus for me.
I might meet new customers, and learn about new places that I haven't known about before.
I have been on Facebook since 2006, and well the people know me and I get a few hits on my blog, but it's pretty saturated right now.  So the chance to meet new people and have a new audience is exciting for me.

Will Tsu pay?  I don't know but that's not the real reason that I'm there. You come and try it out and if you don't like it don't tread on my feet ok?  We are there for different reasons.

Improve your community - Talpiot

The Jerusalem Muncipality is holding a meeting tomorrow, Yes, I know that it is short notice but I just fount the sign this afternoon. so if you live in Talpiot and are concerned with traffic, parking, pedestrian crossings, historical buildings almost everything about the community, you should make it
your business to be there.

Once my English speaking mother signed a petition against the expansion of the Light Rail line to go down Kanfei Nesharim, and then about 2 weeks later she got an invitation to a planning session about the train!  She's like 79 years old and still at a beginner level in Hebrew, but she went and I think that the plan has been mothballed.

If you have strong feelings about anything in Talpiot- Arnona, then really go and make your voide heard!

Muslim Wakf damages Temple Mount .. .. Again!

The Muslim Wakf is continuing to use heavy equipment to do "renovations" to the Temple Mount.
Bulldozer at work on the Temple Mount Taken from Shivi newspaper
This time they replaced a carpet in the Al Aska Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.  The carpet was worn out and they needed to put 80 bales of carpet to replace it.  They did ask for visas of Jordanian carpet layers. Why not use Israelis?  too political I guess.  So, Uri Ariel of Israel Home party found out about the work, and sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but nothing on the Israeli side was done.   They also brought in a bulldozer to do digging and using this really destoryed part of our history.

The most important site in Jerusalem, has never been properly excavated because of the indifference of the Muslims to the Jewish sensitivities. making it very difficult to even have Jews go visit the site.
The Muslim Wakf  says that Jews never had a presence, and they are afraid that any exavations will prove them wrong.

If Islam is a religion of peace, then this is the place to prove it.  Where is the protest of the Jewish World?  Israelis are silent. Jews from the Diaspora are silent. The world is silent. Where is the outrage?  We are silent.

The Muslims need to give Israel and the world wide community of Jews a confidence building measure and let the Israeli Archeologist up on the Temple Mount to work and document everything that is there.   This would show the world that Islam is a peaceful religion.  If not. . .

Can we sit back while valuable antiquites are being destroyed on Judaism's most holy site?
Why do the Jews have to pray at the second best?  The Western Wall is just the retaining wall of the Temple mount. In ancient times, the people just looked at it, Oh, its a wall.  But what is on top is the most important place in the world to the Jews.

Hypnosis - What type to use?

Along with Yoga, Hypnosis was in the past ridiculed as being "New Age," too far out and any sane person would not admit to going to do Yoga or Hypnosis.  But times have changed.  Yoga is now mainstream, and many gyms offer Yoga classes.  Hypnosis is also up and coming.  There are many types of Hypnosis.

One is stage Hypnosis, where the hypnotist makes the people do stupid things. It can be funny, but that is not really the goal and the best usage of hypnosis.

Then there is Theraputic Hypnosis.  There are many different types of this type of hypnosis, This particular website http://www.choosehypnosis.com/scripts.htm#19 Has many different hypnosis scripts that are even free!  If you would like to work on one of these issues, then call Rachael Alice, Life Coach Jerusalem and we can work on them for you. Lose Weight, Stop Smoking?  No problem. We will start with 4 session, that can be recorded so that  you can play them again at your convience.

Sessions are 45 minutes long and will help you with many different kinds of problems.

Summer is coming, make sure you drink enough water!

Summer is coming, make sure that you drink enough water throughout the day.

The conventional wisdom is that a person needs to drink 8 cups of water.   This is a good guideline, but here is a You Tube video that has a bit more information:

Water is the first thing that you should do to put your body back in balance.  In order to give my family the best water, I put in a water purfication system in my kitchen, and then a Hot-Cold machine that gives hot water, room temperature, and cold water. It has a timer, so I can have my hot water exactly at 6:30 am right on time.

How much water did you drink today?

Let's support each other by writing in the comments section below

For 8 cups, you need to drink a liter and a half.  That's three 500 ml bottles.  Not so bad?
Then every two weeks, I will go weigh myself at the local Kupot Cholim.

Let's get in shape and have a healthy spring, and summer!

Do you live in Israel but don't know how to type in Hebrew?

I once went to a bank to open up an account.  It was a ver difficult experience because the clerk didn't even know how to type my name!  I ended up taking the keyboard from him and imputting all the information by myself.  I could have gone to the manager and had the man fired but I took my indignation and instead started to write a book that I thought was long overdue.  How to type in English and Hebrew.  This book has been on Amazon since 2013, and now I have gotten a few requests to continue it and write it so that people can learn how to type in Hebrew as well using the same method that I used in teaching how to type in English.

Typing in Hebrew, if you live in Israel is very important. You need to type your CV, you need to type on Websites in Hebrew.  If you work in a bank, a government office, a medical clinic, you owe it to yourself to be able to type in Hebrew.

I am in the process of updating the book to include how to type in Hebrew.  The English side is done already, and I am working on the Hebrew side.  If you want, I can send you exercises of one letter a week in either language for the low price of one dollar a week.  You can pay via paypal, per month. This is much cheaper than private lessons, although I offer private typing lessons as well either in person in Jerusalem or via Skype.   e-mail me for more information about either option.

If you want to get the book on Amazon you can go to this link:

 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BHIZYUK?ie=UTF8&camp=213733&creative=393177&creativeASIN=B00BHIZYUK&linkCode=shr&tag=jerusmalbusib-20&linkId=UMIZWYNO42W4HXFP&qid=1428830909&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+type+in+English+and+Hebrew via @amazon

When the book is in the final form, I think it will take about a month, even if you buy it now, you will receive the updated book from Amazon anyway.

What are you waiting for?  Learn how to Touch Type!

Google is rolling out a new SEO scheme, You better be on it!

Google is a prime mover in our lives whether you like it or not.  Since most of the commerce is being done in conjuction with the Internet, you need to know if your website or blog is going to be ranked appropriately.  On April 21st, Google is changing its SEO algorthim to include mobile "friendly" websites.  This means that if your website has limited functionality in the mobile version it will negatively affect your Google ratings.

If you have updated your website recently, say within the last 5 years, then you should be ok, but it is best to check.  Google is even giving us a tool to do so!  https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/?utm_source=wmc-blog&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=mobile-friendly&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.davidorbach.com%2F

Yeah, its a long link.  But it works! I put in this blog and I got a thumbs up!  Make sure that you have http:\\ before the webaddress, otherwise you will get a mistake.    I put in my husband's website  www.davidorbach.com  and it came up that the site is mobile,

If after doing this check, the wrong page comes up, get on the horn to your web developer and change it right away!  Don't get left out in the Cold!

Get to it NOW

Social Networks that pay YOU! Comparsion "shopping"

We all know about the big social networks, Facebook, Twitter, Google +  .  The business model is the same. They gather a lot of users, make it possible to connect with your friends and find new ones, and then show you ads.  Facebook is as we all know the biggest, and has changed from being fun to a big business.  Twitter, started ad free,  but now they are in  full force.  https://twitter.com/?lang=he
The social network takes your information, your likes and dislikes, they show you ads that are based on your history.  They hope that you will click on these ads and make them money.

What do you get?  You get interaction with your friends, and to see lots of ads that don't benefit you.

What if there was a way that you could benefit with some money in your pocket?  Would you change your social network?  I don't know about you, but I would.  I generally use Facebook, Twitter, Google + to spread the news about my blog posts, and if I have a slow day like yesterday I try to find interesting things around the Internet.

I found not one but two social networks that say they will PAY you to use them!  Interested?  Me too!

The first one I found was MyLiveB   http://www.mylifeb.com  It has a different look than Facebook, Twitter, Google+,  It took me about an hour to put up my profile and I made a page for one of my interests: Traveling Hair Salon in Jerusalem http://www.mylifeb.com/&?page=150  This morning when I checked in, one person had gone there and agreed with it.  OK,  One one catch with this site that they will not start to pay until there are 1000 followers.  Well that seems like it will take a while, even on Facebook, I have 689 friends. On Twitter I have 336 followers, On Google + I have 110.  It will be a while I see, until I'll get paid.  Oh, well, I hope that it is a different audience than the others.  I'll continue there for a while to see what the traffic is. There are some English mistakes in the advertising, I'm an English teacher, so I notice these thengs.  If you have time then go there and start interacting with a new group of people.   Maybe I'll get some bites or bytes!

The second paying social network is Tsu.  https://www.tsu.co/RachaelAlice It is based in New York, it is an invitation only paying social network.  There is already a big following and last night when I signed up I saw that there were some people who looked at my profile right away.  It looks a bit like Google+ but in green.  I like green.  You can also use it on your smartphone, I downloaded the app, but haven't used it yet.
The look and feel is familiar, and you can put anything you want, videos, pictures, it is pretty wide open.  The ads are there, but I feel better to click them as I know that the site will pay me back.  My stats are now at zero money, but at least I see that there is a possibility that something will come of my using this network.

If I knew exactly how to use the printscreen function in Windows 8.1 then I'd give you screen shots of these sites.  But I have tried so instead, you get to go there and see for yourselves.  Have fun and help open a new era of social networking!

Which Web e-mail to use? Comparision Shopping

I have been using both G-mail and Yahoo mail for over 10 years.  I feel qualified to give you my opinion about these two services.

Yahoo was one of the first to offer web-based mail, I joined in 2006. At the beginning it was wonderful to be able to access my e-mail anywhere, (at home or at the university where I was studying).  Yahoo has kept its promise that you can have as much space as you need, but if you dig further, it shows that each user has has a terabyte of space.  I'm not sure how you can measure that you are getting close to filling up your tera, but as I have over 50,000 e-mails I'm not getting any warnings from Yahoo yet. . .

Recently, within the past year, Yahoo has been putting large ads on the right hand side.  Sometimes it is Unicef with the traditional sob your heart out picture of a child with wide eyes, and they want you to donate.  It might be nice once in a while, but frankly, I'm bored with this and ignore it now.

It is also difficult to do a search on your Yahoo mail.  Maybe it is because I have so many in my inbox, but I really for the life of me can't go through each and every e-mail to delete.  I would like to search for a keyword, say "Last chance" and delete everything with this heading.  If I haven't looked at it since 2006, I'm not going to look at it now,   But each time I try, Yahoo has a breakdown and I just forget about it.

Google on the other hand, gives 15 gigabytes of free space, and they print this at the bottom of each page of your e-mail opening page.  It also gives you the percentage of space you have left.  If you do some digging, if you go over the 15 giga, then you have to pay $1.99 a month to keep your files.  This space includes your e-mails, your google documents.  I'm not sure about your calendar. (I use that quite a bit)  Well, I don't want to pay to store the 17.000 or so e-mails since 2009.  So actually it was pretty easy to search and delete by keyword.  It took me a month, and now I'm down to about 2000 emails.  I cleaned off my computer a while back sending all my important files to my Gmail account, this was before Google Drive was rolled out, so the 9.12 gigas that I have used, aren't the e-mails.  They are files, so my next project is to go through the files and delete those which are not important, or send them to Yahoo.

Gmail's ads are not as annoying as Yahoo's and I even click sometimes on them because they might be interesting for me.

Overall, in speed Gmail is faster, but you have to watch out how much space you are using.
Yahoo has almost unlimited space, but is slow and crashes often.  I prefer to use Gmail, and keep the junk e-mails down to a minimun.

Higher Education for free? Life on a Shoestring

Do you want an education, but don't care about the piece of paper called a Diploma?   It is true that college graduates on the whole earn more money than high school graduates,  It is very expensive to go to university right now in the United States. Living here in Israel, I'm not so apprehensive, but for me, as much as I'd like a Master's Degree, or an MBA, I can't take the time out to go to university and put my life and kids on hold for the two or three years that it would take. Pick a program and treat it like a real class. log on or go on line at the same time every day, check your progress, do homework if the class requires,  Then you give yourself the education you deserve!

I'm learning a few things right now.  One subject is French.   http://alison.com/courses/Basic-French-Language-For-Everyday-Life  This couse is a video course that has the text in French on the page as well as English.  I find that it helps me to read both languages and hear the French.  I'm not finished yet, but slowly getting there.   You need to register, using either your Google, Yahoo or Facebook, if you want the diploma for each of your courses, you have to pay for them, but it is not necessary.

The Open University offers extracts from their courses,  This is an introductory course about management,
The advantage about these courses is that you don't have to register, just click on the course you want and start to read.   It is useful to take notes while taking this course, it will help you remember what you learned.  Then try to apply the principles in your everyday life.

Pesach that divides the people of Israel

For all the problems that Sephardim seem to have in Israel, eating on Passover is not one of them.  Almost all the companies kosher their machines and food factories, but they don't go far enough.  Ashkenzim get left out in the cold and we get to eat Matza, vegetables, meat and cheese.  Cookies and cakes and salads are forbidden. Why? well, they are made with Kitnyiot. This catagory of food includes corn, rice, soy, and various other types of food.  It is very difficult to go shopping on Chol Hamoed and really be satisfied with the food available to buy.  You have to check very carefully, it feels like the Askenizim are being discriminated against.  Why can't more food companies go the extra mile and make foods that appropriate for everyone?  It gets a bit tiring to eat Matza all the time.

Families are being divided, there are those who won't eat in each other homes, because of the problems of eating kityiot.I am not saying that Sephardim give up their kitnyiot,

There has been talk of abolishing the kitnioyt ban, but that won't happen. In the United States, all the Passover food is kitnyiot free. The OU is the most reliable hechsher there and the companies in the US are able to make wonderful products without kitnyiot.

Why won't more companies in Israel help and make really all Kosher for Passover foods in Israel?  \
It doesn't make sense to me,  does it to you?

Fires in Jerusalem

There was a fire yesterday in Jerusalem, eventhough you probably didn't hear about it on the news.  Sometimes since we live near the Lifta Valley, we call in the fires we see during the summer.  This one is too far away and we hoped that someone closer by was able to call it in to the Fire Department.

Stay safe and follow fire precautions!
This is a fire that we saw outside the Old City, Veiw from the Zurin Valley.
