How to be a good salesperson . . Sell it now!

These are tips from when I was a manager in a JCPenney store in the Los Angeles Market a while ago.  These are time-honored sales principles. Enjoy!

The five steps of a sale.

This post is for sales people, but the concepts could be used in everyday life as well.

Greet the customer within two minutes that she enters your store. Be cheerful, smile, say hello.  During the initial exchange, determine what language the person speaks and if you know that language, speak in the customer's native language. He will feel more comfortable and more open to you if he doesn't have to search for words.

Even if the customer says thay she is just looking, don't turn away to do something else, maybe bend down to straighten up a rack or a shelf, but be nearby, attentive to the customer.  There will be time for you to do general duties later.   Usually the customer will have a question to ask you, and then turn towards the customer, make a positive comment about the item that the person is looking at right now, and start a conversation. Find out why the customer is in the store.

Find out the wants and needs of the customer.  Ask many questions, get the customer to talk to you.  Is she buying a gift?  Is the item going to be for her self? For what purpose?

Fulfill the customer's request.  Suggest an item that has features that the customer needs.  If the item comes in different colors, find out what color is best, and then put the item in the person's hand for her to see and feel the quality and how it will benefit her to buy it. If the item has zippers, open and close them, for example if you are selling school bags, make sure that all the zippers work before showing the customer.  It might be very embarrassing to have a bag that the zipper is stuck while you are showing the school bag!  Tell about the strength of the material, mention warranties if it has one.

Overcome objections  Sometimes the customer is undecided and wants to convince himself not to buy the item.  So he will come up with objections, as to price, color, size.  Tell the customer that the price is higher because of a better quality item, if possible show a cheaper one, and show the difference in workmanship, or the higher price one has a longer warranty, if the problem is with color, see if there is another one in the color that the customer wants.

Close the sale.  Take the customer over to the cash register,  and then add on a companion item that goes with the big item that the customer just decided to buy.  Chances are that your customer also needs the other item as well and since she has decided to buy the big item, the little one that goes with it will be accepted.

Ring up the sale, with the procedures that are used in your business, say the total price with a smile and put the items in a bag carefully showing that you respect the person and that you appreciate that the person came into your store to buy from you.
Say "Have  a good day," and thank the person for coming in.

Some sales people don't know these five steps and sometimes they make a sale and sometimes they don't. They force the customer to go through these five steps unconsciously by themselves, and sometimes if the customer is with a friend, the friend will be the "salesperson."  If the person is undecided, and you don't help him most likely he won't buy anything.  Not every customer will need you to go through all five steps, some will overcome their own objections by themselves, because they already have bought the same brand in the past.

When a customer is in the store, you are "on stage," your problems are of no concern to the customer and she is your sole focus.  Above all, take your clues from the customer and clue in on what she is feeling and respond appropriately.   Get to be good at remembering names and faces.  Then the next time the person comes into the store you can greet her like a friend and start the conversation in a more natural fashion.

Good luck with your sales!

How to get more out of life!

Sometimes people feel like nothing is going right.  The rice gets burned, the stove is dirty. The plumbing needs fixed,   your son missed his school bus and the list can go on and on.

So one way out of this rut is to sit down and make a list of all the things that you you are grateful for.  When a person thinks about all the good that is around them in life, their awareness of the good increases and this brings more blessings.  If you feel grateful for all that you have, then abundance shows up.

Some people can do this on their own, but others need a bit of help. So here is some homework for you.

Sit down at a table with a pen or pencil and a piece of paper.  Yes, I know that it sounds old fashioned, but trust me, it works.  Make a list of the things that you are grateful for that you have. and then when you start to worry about things that you don't have, look at your list.   Make the list as detailed as you can, put in colors, textures, smells if the item has one,  sounds, involve all your senses.

Here is a personal list:

I am grateful for all my musical instruments:  Black Buffet Bb Clarinet, Black Buffet A Clarinet,Silver Selmer Flute,  Black Selmer Eb Clarinet, Gold colorYamaha Eb Saxophone,Gold color Bb Saxophone,  Green with an Eagle Acoustic Guitar, Multicolored wood  3/4 classical guitar.

I am grateful for the beautiful apartment that I live in Jerusalem

I am grateful for my wonderful husband and children.

I am grateful for modern technology such as the smartphone and computers that make it possible for me to work on-line.

I could really fill up a whole page. So now it is your turn to feel grateful!

Have a grateful day!

Strike by Municipality workers

Today is the second day of the strike by the Municipality workers.  Has the strike affected you?
I was an English teacher during the long two month strike of the teachers a few years ago.  Did you know
that the teachers were not paid during the time that they didn't work?  I had two and a half months of
no money coming in.  The Israeli unions do not offer any type of  monetary support for striking workers.
Each day I had to listen to the radio to find out if I could go into work.   After the long strike, what did I see
in my paycheck?  Oh, about 20-30 NIS a month.  It did not make up for the lost work, and the loss of
learning time for my students.  There was no support from the school or the English coordinator to
help the students make up work.

So, I do not support strikes, as a worker at all.  I am not striking even though I give classes at the
local community center, Beit Roos.

There has to be a better way to help the municipality get more money than hurting all of the workers.
Most people live from paycheck to paycheck and when they are forced to strike there will be no paycheck
for the strike days. .

Elect a mayor who is from the people, a person who really works for a living.  One who really knows how
it is to live like you and me.  Then the face of government will change.  Make political office be an honor
instead of a feed trough.

Because I want to help you make it in Jerusalem, I have some information that might be useful to you.

1. Have you ever had the zipper head on your heavy winter coat break off?  I have had to throw away countless kids coats because of a broken zipper head.  So, I found a place to replace this zipper head for the price of . . . wait for it. . . 3 NIS!!!!  Yes, that's the price.  Ok, now the problem is to find it.
The store is  only open from 5:00pm - 9:00pm Sunday - Thursday at Givat Shaul 17 entrance ג
Phone numbers: 02-652-7832  054-843-8125   I have already replaced zippers on 3 coats!

2. I first thought that this was a joke, because I first found this in a school text that I taught in class.
But no it is actually real.  If you find a snake in your house, don't panic or scream.  Call the snake catcher any time of day or night for snakes or scorpions.    Meir Goldsmith 054-439-9649 He's based in Beit Shemesh.

3. Givat Shaul Picture Book Gemach.  English picture books for lending. Each book 5 NIS per month.  Also available some English novels, and English Jewish books for older kids.  call Rachael, yes, this is my gemach at 052-750-0608.

4.  One bedroom apartment for rent in Nachlaot. Ground Floor, Private Entrance, available immediately.
Newly painted and unfurnished, high ceilings.   Great location in the Center of Nachlaot, close to the shuk.  4000NIS a month, contract until August.  Call Hana at 052-619-3200 or Rachael 052-750-0608 to see the apartment.

Don't Quit -The Famous poem

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes well,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are hight
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit

Life is queer with its twists and turns
As everyone of sometimes learns
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man
Often the struggler has has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup
And he learned too late when the night came down
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Jerusalem cat with the view!

How to get over frustration in your life!

Frustration, it is a problem that everyone has in their lives.  Whether you have a chronic illness or  problems at work, everyone has something that bothers them.

I have a story to tell you about what happened to me last Sunday.  It was a day to top, or should I say, it was the worst day of my life.
The first thing that happened, is that I wanted to get fresh bread for my family for breakfast.  There is a bakery nearby, and so I woke up early and by 6:10 am I was at the door to the bakery. This is a working bakery and all the breads are baked there.  They have the mixers, ovens and everything there and you can smell the bread as you walk outside, but as I walked in, the bakery was clean.  Not a roll or even day old from Friday in sight.  No bread.  "No, we don't have any now, come back in 20 minutes!" But I went back home empty-handed and when I got there got the kids were up,  getting dressed and I sent my 2nd oldest son back to the bakery to get bread.  He went. The rest of the kids got dressed, and my son came back with pitot.  Ok, good enough,  "Make lunches quickly!"  I urged.  That done, we went down for the school busses.  My youngest son didn't move fast enough,  He missed his ride to school.  Just then I saw the mini bus for my youngest daughter,  I lost it. Yes, I know that I shouldn't but I did.  I screamed.  I am ashamed to admit it but I was very frustrated.  The mini bus paused enough to admit my daughter who by that time came down and got on the bus.  Whew, I knew that I couldn't get her to Neve Yakov where her school is located by bus and train.  You see, today was the day that I had to take the car for the 200,000 km servicing.  So now, how was I going to get my youngest son to school in the Old City of Jerusalem?  You can't even drive a car in there anymore.   Well, my 2nd oldest son volunteered to take him, Thanks!  Wow, that's a big help.

So now, it is time for me to drop off my husband at work.  No problems there.  Whoops! The car is almost out of gas.  I go to the gas station. Pull up to a self service pump.  I get out of the car.  I go to the pump, there is no way to put the gas in.  The connection between the pump, you know, the rubber hose is not there.  So, I want to move the car.  THE CAR HAD LOCKED ITSELF WITH THE KEYS INSIDE!  There was no way to get in!  I could see the keys, but the door would not open! Boy, was I upset!

"OK," I said to myself, "Take a deep breath, work the problem.  well, I could go home and get the second set of car keys.  I'm near Machne Yehuda, so I'll go home and get the keys.  Can take a taxi?   nope, not enough cash in my wallet.  Bus?  No, there are no busses on Yafo now that there is the train.  Ok, well, I'll walk."  So I walked home.  It took about a half an hour there, grab the keys, and a half an hour back.  Actually the walk did me good, it helped to put the events in perspective.  I had to cancel a life-coaching sesson, but all for the good.  That can be rescheduled. no harm done, as my father used to say.

I go back to the gas station, open the car, put in the gas, and now I'm going to Talpiot to the garage to get the car serviced.  What do you know what happened?
The garage can't do the servicing because there is only one lite in the garage, and a really smashed up car is there getting fixed. Right.

"Come back in two days," the mechanic says.
Ok, no problem.  I go back home.  I want to park the car and start this day over again.  Its only 10:30 am!   What do you know that when I got home, there was someone else's car blocking my parking spot?  Yes, you are right.

OF COURSE!

So, what are the lessons that I learned from this.
1. If I am ever really depressed about something, all I have to do is to look back on this day and say to myself, is it worse than that Sunday January 8th?
Most chances it will not come anywhere near to what happened.

2. Yes, I did lose my temper, I did, but I got over it.  If I can get over it on that day, I can do it anytime!

3. The rest of the day actually went ok.  I didn't get hurt, nobody lost anything except time and money.  Money can be replaced, but health cannot.  So, all in all, I came out ahead.  I can now anchor that day as a bad day and any other day is a great day in comparison!

4. Now I can laugh at what happened. It is amazing what the space of two days can do, I can really laugh at it now.

5. I don't have to take myself so seriously at all times.  Things happen.  So I can roll with the punches.  I got a punch, and now I can punch back.  Maybe you can too.

Call or e-mail today to schedule your first free 1/2 hour no-obligation session.  I look forward to helping you!

How to get into the "Zone" Your best performance

Here is an inspiring story of Joshua Bell, a world famous violin player and how he got over his first mess up at a violin competition.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/01/01/joshua-bell-on-messing-up-his-first-violin-competition.html

He used a NLP technique even though he didn't know it.  He has taken this experience, anchored it and now uses it to help himself when he is in a difficult situation.

You can do this as well.  Think of a situation that you did very well.  Anchor it by slapping or touching yourself on the  left shoulder with right hand.  Then do this for two other experiences.  You have now stacked the anchors.

When you are in a difficult situation, now you "fire" the anchors.  You will feel confidence flow through you.

Call now to set up your free half hour introductory Life Coach/NLP session via Skype!

How I became interested in NLP/Life Coaching

I have been a life long student of Human behavior.  I started when I was at UCLA majoring in Anthropology.  I chose this major because of the flexibility it offered.  I could take classes in Psychology like Human Motivation, in Sociology like Group Behaviour, and in the Medical Department, Biology, Chemistry, and Human Anatomy.

After University, I went on the work at JCPenney, and then made Aliyah to Israel, where I have worked at many different jobs including as a secretary, a real estate agent, English Teacher and Music teacher.

But I never really found the key to Human Behaviour until I found NLP.  Language is the key to all behaviours, how a person talks to himself will determine his outward behaviour. How you are perceived by others determines if your language  and intention is getting across the way you want it to.

I was curious about NLP and I was at first very skeptical. It was started in the 1970's by Richard Bandler and John Grindler, and that was a very "touchy feelly"  time, and they even lived in Berkeley California, the Hippie capital of California.  So I at first didn't put much stock into NLP.

But I had to change my life, I have 5 kids and husband, and I have to have credible tools to help them and me.  We tried "Parental councelling."  We tried Marital Therapy. We tried working with Social Workers,  but nothing worked.  The kids did were doing better in school once we got rid of all the outside influences  and I went according to my instincts.  But I felt that it just wasn't going fast enough,  My youngest daughter, who was 9 at the time still sucked her thumb, the dentist kept shaking her finger at the child, saying," You have to stop that habit," but it didn't work. I
So I went back to the drawing room. I looked up NLP again, this time with the American University of NLP, and it seemed a doable program,  I could learn at home on-line, at my own pace.  As of right now I am in the last of the classes that I set out to do.  I have taken all the Life Coach courses, and now I am in the last of the NLP courses, at the Trainer level.   I am half-way through this final course and I see myself in the future teaching NLP to parents and teachers.

Now I use NLP in every sphere of my life.  I am more careful of my language patterns, to be more positive, I get my point across in a better way. I use economy of movement in every sphere of my life.  I feel more in control of myself, and of my family.  I use NLP with my children to help them get rid of bad habits, and I use the language patterns to let the family know what is permitted and what is not.  My son (10 years old)  this evening was in the service porch climbing up where he shouldn't be. In the past I would have yelled, "Git down from there!!"  but today, I said, " That is a dangerous place to be, isn't it? "  He got down right away, saying "Well, I guess so." I didn't have to yell, I didn't have to get angry.

 In two words. "NLP works"

I am looking forward to helping you change your life to be more effective, more powerful, easily and effortlessly.
